XF 2.0 Having trouble with forum node permissions

This is what I’m trying to achieve:


Category - hidden by all users first, then visible to user group X and group Y only

Forum A - hidden by all users first, then visible to group X only​

Forum B - hidden by all users first, then visible to group Y only​

I feel like I’m doing it correctly. But I can’t even see the forum on my own account even when my personal settings are all set to yes.

1) tick category as private node
1a) permissions of category -> user group x -> view node: yes
1b) permissions of category -> user group y -> view node: yes

2a) permissions of Forum A -> user group y -> view node: no
2b) permissions of Forum B -> user group x-> view node: no
