Something I noticed which I think helps to make sense of life is how XenForo will always display your first unread message first in the Inbox drop down.
So say you've got 2 messages to read and you read the most recent one first, when you hover on the drop down again you'll actually be displayed the unread message first rather than the most recent read message.
