Google Analytics: Site Search and New User Registration Goal

When setting up the goal and adding your funnel step 1 there is a checkbox "Required Step". So if the user does not visit http://your-domain.com/register/ first and goes straight to the register/register they will not be counted in the funnel report.

You're not obligated to check the checkbox!

Hi Ati,

There are other ways to register events in Google Analytics, without really having to modify the web application so as to hit a confirmation page. See Event Tracking:
http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/eventTrackerGuide.html

If you can't figure it out, I can recommend a programmer who should be able to sort it out for you - he has setup some custom tracking on a wordpress site of mine.

This also falls apart in the scenario where users hit the */account-confirmation page when updating their email address. Doesn't anyone have a regular expression that would weed out those false positives?
