XF 2.1 Getting Alerts without having to refresh the page

On XF1 Alerts would pop up without having to refresh the page but now on XF2 you have to refresh the page to get Alerts.

Is there a way to set this up? If there is an addon that does this could you please tell me what it is?

XF1 required an ajax action to trigger alerts - it didn't happen automatically.

Did you have an add-on installed for that?

Ah yeah, looking back I guess I did have an addon called Tab Alerts that doesn't seem to exist for XF2.

It's a real shame because it seems to be the one feature my users miss the most and yet there don't appear to be any addons that do that job for XF2.

I don't suppose you know of a way to get it to work Brogan? With all your mighty Xenforo skills?

I suspect the add-on just used JS to poll the server periodically.

It would require some level of customisation to get it to work.

Oh I saw that yesterday but didn't think it was for Alerts. Will that do the job then?

It seems so but check with the author that it does what you want and is compatible with the version of XF you are running.
