Forum closed / spam bots still registering

I have my Forum closed, because I hd a massive spam-attack from spam-bots last week.

Just checking my Forum now, there are over 100 new members (spam-bots) registered as new "members" since last week.

How can somebody register at my forum, when in fact my Forum is "closed" and "not active" ???

Closed as in this setting?

Admin CP -> Home -> Options -> Board Active -> Board is Active

That will prevent registrations unless you have some external registration system in place.

Spam-bots showing as "Members online now" in the sidebar.

You see them listed as online. That doesn't mean they registered while the board was closed. Check the reg dates.

I recommend KeyCaptcha. Running it on all my forums and pretty much killed spam.
