The Same forum boost amount ("forum boost") should consider child nodes over anything else if there is nothing in the node that is relevant because the likelihood of a child node containing a match is much greater than elsewhere.
I'm assuming if the red were in the parent node and forum boost was set at 2, they would appear at the top (though, I'm getting similar results in the child node as seen in the parent too, so I don't know what forum boost is supposed to be doing).
However, how this is set up there is a parent of General Movie Discussions and then a child of Movies (to discuss specific titles).
My suggestion would be to 1/2 the forum boost to the nth child as that would always be greater than 1 (no boost) from the original forum boost so that more relevant threads appear at the top.
In this case, General Movie Discussions would be a forum boost of 2, and the most relevant from that node show first, and then the child node of Movies be 1/2 of that at 1.5 to put them above anything else as it's likely to be more relevant to the title. And, if there was a child of Movies, say, ARCHIVED (Movie title discussions that are locked and moved into an archive for whatever reason to give an example), that forum boost be 1/2 of its parent or a forum boost of 1.25, so it would show above all else that may be relevant outside of the Parent of General Movie Discussions, above Introductions ("Hell-...").
You could continue child nodes to the nth and division by 1/2 would still put it above 1 so posting in the top Parent node would always have something pulled first from its children before pulling content from a completely different node.
This could be built into the Same forum boost amount option or a separate option below it to "Consider forum boost on child nodes" as the application of this suggestion may not work for all forums (though, it should).
