Forum and admin say a update is running

It has been slow for days, partly because bots were performing Zlib flushing.

But after resolving that problem, the forum remained slow.

So eventually I decided to restore a server backup, and lo and behold, the forum turned out to be faster as a result.

But suddenly the forum was gone with the message that an update is running. I get the same message in Admin as well, and because of that, I can't click on anything anymore!

Is there any way to restore the forum to its original state?

I performed a clean installation of version 2.3.12 on another domain.

I copied all the data from the original config.php of piepcomp.nl and pasted it into the config.php of the testform.

And now the same message appears indicating that an update is running.

So I suspect that this is somewhere in the database!

Most likely yes.
Might be that Vimexx was just backupping when you put everything down.

Suggestion: Try again and then not with the latest backup of the server but the one before.
Exactly this is the reason I repeatedly told you that you can not always trust the ISP backup but it's best if you start changing things you make your own backup!

I am trying to find a database back-up that is finctioning.
Because the problem is tried backups are to small.

I heard it's 2,3 GB that's packed and not too small. Try a DA backup from 1 or 2 days before the issue.

In admin nothing functioned!
Restore the backup then use the path fully.
After that use a direct link so use https://piepcomp.nl/admin.php?upgrade and then see if you can login and if it works that way.

But since there was no upgrade running when the issue occured I think you have a better chance restoring a complete DA backup from a day or 2 before the issue.
Be sure you use the same files, so if you already did the minor upgrade you have to take that in account.

Maybe try this:

If Admin is blocked, don’t try to use the normal ACP navigation. Use the installer upgrader directly:

Code:
https://piepcomp.nl/install/index.php?upgrade/

or from SSH in the XenForo root:

Bash:
php cmd.php xf:upgrade

Make sure the files and database belong to the same XenForo version. If you restored an older database but still have newer XenForo files, XenForo will keep seeing an upgrade as pending. If the database is newer than the files, re-upload the matching/newer XenForo files first.

Do not just change currentVersionId in xf_option to remove the message. That can hide a real schema/master-data mismatch and leave the forum damaged.

p.s.,

If the database backup is incomplete, there is no reliable way to “restore” that database into a working forum. You need a complete, consistent database backup, ideally from before the issue, plus matching forum files. A partial DB dump may be useful only for extracting some individual data manually, not for restoring the XenForo installation as-is.
