Force user to log out - would you find this useful?

I decided to post this here just to get opinions on this. A few years ago I always pondered the idea of creating a modification to force the log out of users. I can't remember entirely why I wanted to do this, but I was pretty much stuck on the idea for a good 3 months.

Would anyone find a constructive use for a forced user logout? I'm tempted to suggest it, but I decided a discussion might be more suitable

It would be good for getting rid of someone without actually banning them. But then, "Miserable User" takes care of that pretty well.

Like the "Tachy goes to Coventry" option, but on steroids ?

Its good if you dont want to allow banned members to still appear online. (change their password) and force them to log off.

How? As far as I know it was a pretty good system.

No, it wasn't. If you used it on someone, ALL their posts disappeared. Immediate flag to the rest of the membership that something is up.

You mean like... if you banned that user, and all their posts shows up as banned? Or if they immediately stop posting for some reason? They send the same kind of signal to the user base.

I would never force a user to log out. That would really tick me off on other forums.
