Although is is clearly a browser issue, it is really annoying for users as they get no indication that an input is missing, they just can't submit the form and report this as a bug.

Maybe some JavaScript workaround could be done here?

Thank you for reporting this issue. Required fields are checked by the browser itself. Firefox for Android blocks the form but doesn't show its message for the empty field. That is a known Firefox issue, still open on Mozilla's tracker, and nothing in our form code stops the message from appearing.
