XF 2.2 Find a Member - can partial match work?

Find Member function only seems to work if entire user name is used.
We use real names on our forum (eg John Smith with a space between the names).
Right now a search for Smith produces no results.

Could this be fixed easily?

Find Member function only seems to work if entire user name is used.

It also works for partial searches of the beginning, but as you say not the end (I think autocomplete is also based on recent activity maybe active in last 6 months)

The member search addon by @AndyB does find members via surname though:
