XF 2.2 Feasibility of using XF search to search outside of XF

Hello

I've a whole bunch of stuff on my site that's non-XF related.

is there a way of getting it to get searched via the XF search?

I'm thinking add details of each item into the XF Search index, and perhaps make a fake content type for it

But not sure the best way to go about it
