Facebook Sues To Bar the Use of 'Book' in Site's Name

That's new. First i hear facebook copyrighted the term "wall" and now this. Hopefully we can see some nice precedents being set here so wannabe sites can get what's coming to them.

Face and book are both common terms, especially in social media; if they win this case, they're likely to see many people raging over it.

I think TeachBook need to spend their money wisely on a global marketing campaign to gather donations from around the world to take on Facebook about using the name book in any name. It always comes back to David and the Goliath. The little guy can and does win if done right.

Well the site is about teachers and teachers use books so i doubt facebook will win.

On a side note? If they wanted to make an example of someone, why would they choose a website trying to spread knowledge, dedicated to teachers? Do they want to dumb the entire world down so all people post about is random crap.

This could then be applied to Xen, as it is a registered trademark. There is noway Facebook can get away with that nonsense, especially when the site isn't even a social network, but a site purely for teachers to share resources, experience, knowledge, etc.

I think the article hit it on the head though Peggy.... the financial impact of whether its worth it, right or wrong. Facebook would be morons to take on the porn industry, as the cash that would come out of the woodwork would smash FB back to reality. Teachers website.... not real sure they would have the cash. I think they should go for global news release at the cost of under a grand, and ask for donations to fight... I would donate to help that cause.

I remember Aaron Wall did this with a larger company taking him on when he was just an individual, and SEO's and webmasters, bloggers, all came out and donated in small amounts to give him the funds to fight it... suddenly the big company backed off as he could hire extremely good lawyers. All the left over got donated to a charity... which he provided a transparent report on donations, costs and then the left over donation. Very effective...

Hell, if this uses any logic at all then Sony should be suing over the use of PS3 (which is their trademark, btw) outside of their products and third-party owned licensed products, which I haven't seen happen yet. Most of those sites don't directly compete in some way against Sony however (Unless they're anti-PS3 sites), and actually do more good if they're a fan site, as theres a possibility of gaining more sales due to something said.
