Please check out our forums and let us know what you think. All constructive feedback is appreciated and any suggestions how to get members is also welcome!

It is rather simple aesthetically but it allows to get to the essential, the content.
I'm not a big fan of full width sites because it requires visual gymnastics to go from right to left which is a bit tiring in the long run.

You should adjust the colors of the tab drop-down menus to match the overall style.

Good luck with your forum, the topic is in tune with the times, congratulations.

Our story doesn't make sense... it doesn't tell a story and i'm confused.

you have mixed www's and non-www urls everywhere.

too many forums for starting out. Break out into sun forums later when it gets bigger. It just looks empty.

Thank you for the input.
1) The our story portion is to display our EV history. Would changing it to Our EVs make it a bit clearer?
2) Mixed URLs, is there somewhere to set to force www. versions? How would this be fixed?
3) Too many forums. We wanted to make sure everything is categorized in the beginning to save time later as it grows.

The intent of your individual forum rules are fine. But the way the are written feels too… harsh? They might give an uninviting or unapproachable impression to future members.

I like to reference other forums’ rules to compare to my own sometimes.

The grammar and readability of mine need to be revised, but check them out for ideas:

Thanks guys. It's my first forums and I feel like with the current environment we live in today, people are getting sued for everything. I will try to word everything a bit less harsh.

The biggest struggle has been with getting anyone to even visit the site. We've been online for about a month now and have only 10 members. We've tried Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Facebook Ads, which brought over 15,000 impressions but only 1 person signed up through that. We've printed a bunch of business cards we are going to start handing out now too locally.

I don't want to pay people to make posts as that isn't a good tactic to use in my opinion. I know it will take time to grow, and your insights are already helping.

Thanks everyone!

I am in the same situation as you: concerning advertisements on facebook, google, etc ... do not waste your money as long as your forum does not have real content, you have seen it yourself people will come but will leave without registering if they do not have in front of them enough to satisfy their thirst for knowledge.

Ultimately, your forum would have a target population of 15/18 years old, that would be wise, but buyers of electric vehicles will certainly have a certain maturity which should prevent you from having enough problems of this kind, without eliminating them completely, but you will be more at ease.

Thank you yet again. I reworked the rules and the post to be more inviting using yours as a guideline.

What do you mean by the target population of 15/18 years old? Most EV owners are between 30-65 if I read correctly. Or am I missing something here?

What have you guys all done to promote yours and become successful?

That is significantly better! It feels very personable now, especially with the introduction part. 👍

I really like your site by the way. You did a great job!

1) I'd say build a splash page and link to those topics after some introduction. You can make a custom page in the help area or something pretty easily and just link to it from the member bar.

ultimately, i don't think your story is the target of the board. it's either a blog about you or a forum for everyone. Others may disagree with this comment.

2) make sure your board url / canonical settings line up to your htaccess file.

3) i hear ya, but it looks empty and that's a turn off to potential members. As you are seeing, people come, see its empty, and bounce. if you have 5 forums with 20 topics it looks better than 20 forums with 20 topics.

Also, you need some first party unique content that people might search for via long tail searching.
eg, model 3 distance or f150 charging amps

write some articles up.

In regards to your #2, the htaaccess file doesn't show anything about URLs. I put in the forum settings to use https://www.talkingevs.com and checked 'enable board URL canonicalization.' Will that be sufficient enough?

Great looking site my friend, but I wouldn't node each car. I'd use one node for all of them, but that's just me. Good luck.

I think you have a good start and wish you luck.

I agree with the comments that you have too many forums. I know it's tempting to create forums (nodes) and sub forums for every make and model, but it will take a very long time to fill each with content and your forum will look dead with so many low post sub forums.

I've been running an automotive forum for 20 years. I started with only a few sub forums and added or broke out additional sub forums over the years only as it made sense. Basically, grow into sub forums.

Maybe consider thread prefixes instead of sub forums. For example, have a Tesla forum, but then thread prefixes for model X, Y, S, 3, etc. That way all the Tesla discussion stays in one forum, but people can still sort or search by their individual model if they like.

Many have said too many forums and sub forums, so I just fixed that. I will have to look into the thread prefix thing and how it would be implemented as we eventually do want sub-forums too.

Best of luck, some good stuff.

Your "Local" forums are hardly local. They are large regions. If you want local you may want to look into a social groups add-on.
We plan on implementing a groups functionality as we grow but not yet. We changed it to "Regional" for now.
