External issue Error when logging out of XenForo Cloud Mac/Safari

On Safari (only happens happens on Safari) when I click to log out, nothing seems to happen. I click again and I get an Oops, Cookies are required

Same issue with other users on Safari and with mobile users. And even after clearing cookies and all history.

My specifics: macOS Tahoe 26.2, Safari 26.2. iPhone 17 Pro Max iOS 26.3.1 (a)
 
Same happens on Chrome Mobile version especially, you then need to refresh the page for it to log out.

I thought it was my connection, but naw everything else ok.

Happens here also.

This sounds like the logout itself is actually completing, but the browser is getting hung up on XenForo’s Clear-Site-Data: "cache" handling. That would also explain why refreshing shows you as logged out, and why clicking logout a second time throws the cookies error.

If you’re self-hosted, it may be worth testing this in config.php:

$config['enableClearSiteData'] = false;

That disables XenForo telling the browser to clear its cached site data during logout, so it can avoid the delay/hang.

The downside is that previously viewed authenticated pages may remain in the browser cache after logout. On a shared computer, someone could potentially hit Back and see cached content from the previous session, even though they wouldn’t actually be logged in or able to perform authenticated actions.

So would be ideal to just treat it as a useful test/workaround rather than an ideal permanent fix. Since you’re on XenForo Cloud you probably can’t change it yourself anyway, but it may help XF narrow down the cause.

Thank you for reporting this issue. Logout does complete on the first click; refreshing shows you as logged out. The delay comes from the browser clearing its cached copy of the site, which some versions of Safari and mobile Chrome are very slow to do. The cookies message on a second click happens because the first logout already went through.
