Basically, it seems our DB has picked up an error on restore. Whats new reverts to that error.

Just to check, the database was completely empty before you restored?

Do you have a more complete error with a stack trace?

I have seen issues before where the autoincrement fields are no longer defined in the schema following a botched backup / restore of a database. You should check your schema using a program like phpmyadmin. Or try a different backup if you have one.
