I guess the first obvious question is did you configure that requirement? If you're getting watched thread emails, then email is sending... so I would start with checking if you setup the registration requirement for email confirmation. ACP > Setup > Options > User Registration > [Enable Email Confirmation].

Other things to check are the Server Error Log and also confirm that you setup things like SPF, DKIM and DMARC records as that will impact the deliverability of emails.

If you've checked all of the above and still not getting registration emails, then you'll have to provide more details about your mail handling setup for others to help you sort through the issues.

I recently switched to gmail. Are you within the daily limits? I think it's quite high but there is a limit of 500 recipients for the same email on my plan (the cheapest one).

Also my server AI bot talked me through setting up SPF, DKIM and DMARC as well, but Google itself produced the settings needed to be added - mine is set up in Cloudflare though. The Google info was a bit unintuitive at times. Have you checked in Google Workspace if there is anything remaining to do from their list of recommendations?
