Does increasing the character limit of posts have a negative impact on performance?

I'm pondering increasing the message character limit on one of my boards, as we have several instances of users hitting the limit. As it stands now, they just do the typical flow of posting the first message then rapidly posting 2 or 3 "reserved" posts under the first and then proceed to fill them in with their content.

I'm just curious of the implications of increasing the limit.

Assuming the content is majority text then I doubt you'll notice much difference in performance - the only possibly impact might be on time to render all the additional content in the browser; so you might perceive a slowdown, but it would be a visual one rather than a server one.
