I've started playing chess recently and love the game. A few weeks ago I even went to the local chess club and played in a tournament. Do you play chess? Where do you play? I've got a membership on chess.com(free) so if there are enough people here that play it would be sweet to setup a monthly online tournament.

Yup, love chess, though haven't played it as much as I'd like in recent years. Used to be pretty good though, even played in a couple of local tournaments.

The best place to play chess for free and get a rating is at FICS (http://www.freechess.org). There you can create an account and then you download a client of your choice in order to connect to the server. A Windows 7 client would be e.g. http://www.babaschess.net and a good OS X client is http://www.jinchess.com

I have to say I have a new found fascination with the ancient Chinese game of Go which is similar but all about territory rather than take down the king. It is way more strategic but has many of the same principles. Great for the applied mastery of the teachings of Sun Tzu.

My handle on fics is physicspirate, ill login sometime tonight to see if your online. The real bonus of chess.com is its more of a correspondence style so both parties don't need to be online at the same time. Do you play speed chess?
