XF 2.2 do theme updates delete everything???

Hey guys

So I got a theme and I just updated it by overwriting the files which seemed sketchy in the first place but well, I did that and now all my colors, extra code is gone.

Do all theme updates means overwriting the styles and good bye all settings? I mean it sounds stupid but this is what happened to me so just asking. I am asking here because I want to know if it's a Xenforo weird thing or a theme creator weird thing.

You have to make a child style under the one you are using...
