XF 2.2 Do Tags Improve Google Search Visibility or Just Help Within the Site?

I'm curious about the use of tags on threads. Do they help improve my site's visibility on Google search, or are they mainly useful for finding threads within the site?
Thanks!

I don’t even think you can search tags within a thread. But they can help with an on site search across the forum if people do use the tag search.
I don’t think they help significantly with Google searches,

On site search only.

Google stopped using tags/keywords for search ranking 15 years ago. Keywords were/are just abused by sites applying popular keywords to content pages that had nothing to do with the actual keywords listed. Once Google bots became smart enough to scrape page content they just began creating their own in house list of keywords for the content pages they rank.

On the last forum that I created the tags were included in the sitemap transmitted to GG and I found myself with a lot of tags referenced on the search engine. I unchecked the tags in the sitemap settings and then deleted the pages referenced in the GG search console one by one. It didn't seem appropriate to have the tags referenced.

this is bs
here is the example where you can reach 2 top positions instead of single with proper use of the tag system

if you make an accurate description in SEO perspective for each tag obviously they become interesting for google.
A simple tag placed randomly without a description is almost impossible for Google to consider

in my forum I disabled tags for users who use them randomly those rare times they put them while I made the insertion of prefixes mandatory (which in xf are always tags) and I added a description to the prefixes for SEO purposes and Google indexed them well
