Disruptive IPB vs VB Posters

Which of these types of posters has been more effective in their efforts? Looking at the threads they've created it looks like the new IPB paid and troll posters are doing a slightly better job than the VB paid and troll posters. Is it because they are smarter or is it because most posters who come from VB like myself, don't realize what's going on until after that poster is exposed?

It's mostly because vB users don't realize whats going on until after the troll is complete.

PS. If there really is a paid position for this, I'd like to know where to sign up.

It could be because it is their staff :whistle:

VB can't even get the trolling right these days. It's really weird. Also, the gift that is vb5 makes any trolling in favor of vb transparently obvious.

On the other hand, IPB's ancient 10-year legacy code at least runs; yeah they use tables in forum layout, but at least it doesn't crash. Those trolling on its behalf aren't always transparently obvious.

Not only are there paid trolls, IB has pretty much legally binded a surprising amount of posters from not talking trash about VB5 by duping them into holding their tongue in public with their vb5 beta terms and conditions. So although vB5 has been given an extensive roasting they managed to control the damage so much so that not even moderators from a rival forum software can speak their mind freely on how bad vB5 is. Woooow I can't believe I even asked for an application for some $#!% I can't even make one simple skin from because everything else is all jacked up. Speechless. Sike, I'm speaking and vB5 sucks. Yes I'm saying it for you and you and all my fellower designers and coders who aren't allowed to. Man that's like being in bondage. Even the company I work for got rules like that but I still talk $%&* IDGAF *bumps Me Against The World sike I'm watching Snow White And The Huntsman and yeah this post should've been posted in Random Thoughts but too late now. On my fone.

And do you have any proof that these companies are paying people to troll? IB I can see it happening at, but not IPB.

Also, I haven't really noticed any IPB trollers, and I come here mostly every day.

This is news to me, they waste money on paying people to troll but vB can't even put out a good piece of software anymore?

I do not believe they hire people just to troll other sites, but rather those already employed and have "free time" in between important task, make time to do so.

10 year old legacy code in what universe? IPB was rewritten at 3.0 which was released in 2009.

Define "rewritten"? If they did actually rewrite it, it wouldn't look like vb3.x, namely, nobody starting a brand new rewrite in 2009 would render page elements using <table>. Anti-tables methodology was already gaining traction in the Web 2.0 world from 2006 and 2007 onwards.

New framework, new skin. Rewritten.

It doesn't look anything like vB3, I also don't see any inappropriate tables. The forum and topic indexes use a table because they are tables (read: a grid of data).

It's possible that the backend API was rewritten (or whatever), but that's not what I was talking about. We're talking about the fronted structure, of the forum homepage. Style-wise it may differ different from vb3, but the underlying wireframe of the page is exactly that of vb3 (and really every other forum circa the 2003-2005 period).

See the page source, it's a whole lotta tables.

It is possible to develop grid-like structures solely through divs, as tables have major shortcomings and are not recommended for use any more. You will not get firms or designers to build you a page of tables today.

The entire page has to be constructed with divs, that's the web 2.0 I was talking about, and XF manages to implement it. Similar outward appearance of grids, but a whoooole different structure underneath. This was one of the less noticed features that is imho a major advance on XF's part. Have a look at View Source.

Who gives a monkeys about these silly threads, including this one?

Just buy the software YOU like and use the damn thing...

This has nothing to do with IPB vs XF as I'm not interested in this childs play.

As long as tables aren't used for layout but for tabular data there is nothing wrong them. Ever heard of semantic HTML? Building a table out of DIVs for tabular data to avoid a TABLE-tag is completely ********.

Something like
Code:
<div class="forumrow table">
    <div class="foruminfo td">
    ...
makes me laugh. Obviously the creator recognized the table but didn't use the table tag. This is just wrong. Regardless some "web 2.0 specialists" say so.

You can argue though if the forum view contains tabular data or not. Some people say if it's a table then it only should contain one data in one cell and not more.
