Discussion Board - Colab Project

I'm working on starting up a community where it would actually be a rather large project, eventually the goal is to be on XenForo but we want to pre-plan this for quite some time so we wouldn't be purchasing the software right away.

Has anyone had any experience with some sort of project management software, or discussion board, I was thinking about setting up a temporary thing where about 4-5 of us would be able to discuss and bring up ideas.

Again... eventually the board will be off XenForo but as of now there's 4-5 of us around the world who have terrible timezone so we want something centralized.

Hope that made sense:

TO BE A BIT MORE CLEAR* -

I'm not looking for staff, but more looking for personal recommendations for project management software, where we can bring up ideas, vote on them, discuss them ect ect

We use Pivotal Tracker ( http://pivotaltracker.com ) which imho is quite good for IT related project management. Not quite clear on what you are trying to do though. You are looking to start up a community, or a community project? Is code involved? etc. etc.

Code would be involved, it'd basically be a centralized location almost like a forum board, the folks I'm doing the project with vary from US, Europe and Australia so it'll be hard for us to be on chat at once, although a forum board could do the job in the end, I'm just curious if anyone else has any recommendations a little more specific when it comes to project management, delegating jobs, creating ideas what not.

If your not completely anti vB you could use Project Tools to help manage things. I have a dormant license if you would like to use it.

If you are at all used to Basecamp there is a thing called Freedcamp which is basically the same thing but free. Its pretty good.

MS Project is good, with lots of features that are really good in managing projects but it's really so expensive. It's an overkill for most projects and jobs. OpenProj is an open source project management software that you can trust to use. Features are also great. Other great lists can be found in this blog: http://www.timedoctor.com/blog/2011/02/02/43-project-management-software-alternatives If you'd notice, basecamp is listed here. It's one of the most used project management software package. It's easy to use and features are great too in managing projects. Other software includes freshbooks, central desktop and deskaway; you can check their features and pricing at the spreadsheet in the blog which everyone can see.

Other free software packages include dotProject, OpenProj, Trac and Redmine. OpenProj and dotProject works like MS Project. Trac is written in Python which is a web-based project management and a bug-tracking tool. Redmine is the same as Trac but written using Ruby on Rails. It includes calendar and gantt charts for presentation of projects.

Our team uses Latitude (http://www.latibiz.com/) to manage our projects and documents. Its features helps us reduce wasted time and reduce risks of project failures.
