XF 1.4 Development / Production, share same db/files for testing - how?

I am using a testserver with a (internal resolved) domain for testing / configuring / developing.
Now XenForo asked for a domain name on install, and as it seems I cannot have 2 domain names defined.

Is there anyway I can have a productive and development version which share same configuration?
E.g. which would allow me, to configure everything on testserver, mirror files & database to productive - and then it just works, except config.php adjustements for database access.
I have looked into the database, but it seems not trivial to change that.

You shouldn't be using the same database for two separate installations.

The database I hoped could me mirrored also, which would make testing simpler. Although it would not matter all to much I think.
Will try it out next week, thanks a lot for link!
