XF 2.1 Custom field value in the thread list page

Hi there,
I have created a custom field expiry date (field id=expiry_date) and set display location - above the message.
Can I request for assistance with the following: -

• What value do I need to put in Value display HTML to make the value bold and red? I have add as <span style="background-color: #ff0000;"><strong>{$expiry_date}</strong></span> but it does not work.
• Also, I would like the Expiry Date: value (If there is a value) to appear in thread list page next username, created date and then the expiry date (inline). What code do I need to add to which template to achieve that?
