XF 1.4 CSS template for certain page nodes, without editing PAGE_CONTAINER?

Is it possible to create a CSS template that is displayed for certain page nodes, without editing PAGE_CONTAINER? I can put all my CSS in the extra.css template, but this CSS is used only in certain page nodes, and it seems wasteful to require the download when it's not needed. Thank you.
