Cron jobs, what settings are minimal for good function?

We are getting a big slowdown when some of the Cron jobs run.

We have one running 40 minutes past the hour, I think that is the stock configuration. When it runs things really slow down.

I am thinking about reducing how often they run but I don't know what all of them do. Some it is easy to tell by the name but other I am not so sure of.

Which cron is causing the slowdown? Something is wrong. We need to figure out which one is causing the problem.
