Country Flags by IP Address [Deleted]

I did spot someone on my site that had the Local Intranet flag. But, by the time I turned on IP logging the person was gone and hasn't returned. So, until I see it again I can't check the log to find out what IP is being checked.

All I know for sure is the person was using a proxy.

I have this installed and it displays OK on the members list, member card etc. I can't get it to display the flags on the user information unless the user is an admin (although I only need Registered group ticked for it to show to admins).

Stumped what to try next!

BUT, irrespective of being an admin or not, it will always show the flag over the avatar on the quick reply.

Same on the default style:

Do you have 'Permit Members to Hide Flag' checked in the add-on options?

If so, check the privacy settings for the user you are testing with. If that user has elected not to show the flags, then they won't show up for anyone except admins.

And it looks like you're using the same user both as an admin and a regular user. I'm not sure how you're doing that and it may be what is causing the problem.

EDIT: Also, admins should be able to view flags even if no user groups are selected in the add-on options.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Turned off at the moment while I've been testing.

I changed the user in to an admin for testing, then revoked their permissions afterwards.

Yes I can see them as Admin with all the groups unticked :)

I do find it strange that it shows the flag over the avatar on the Quick Reply though, but not anywhere else on the page.

I find that odd too. But I can't duplicate it, so I tend to believe that either there may be another add-on interfering somewhere or a style problem.

I agree with your logic but I'm on my dev site now with every addon disabled, using the default style. Just removed and re-installed, but still the same...

Since I can't duplicate the problem on my site or development server, would it be possible for me to access your dev site so I can look at what's happening and possibly correct the problem? I would obviously need admin access to look at things in the admin area too.

I noticed a member has a US flag, yet all his IPs are Germany.

How is that possible?
I would have to see the list of IPs.

I don't control where the IP is listed as being from. That is controlled by the MaxMind GeoIP database.

But he could be coming into your site by a proxy. The only way I can be sure of that is if you enabled IP logging for the add-on. But that takes some editing of a php file.

I wondered whether it might be a US army base in Germany. Might those somehow report a US flag but german IP?

I can post the IPs (there are four, all Germany and the members says he is in Germany) , I'm not sure if that is against any kind of privacy law though. ??? I can PC them to you if you like.

I'm not sure if US bases show as being in the US.

Send the list via PC, that way there's no public disclosure of the IPs.

hi @Snog do you know how to fix this small css issue in mobile devices using the flag over the avatar?
normal view:
R 2015-03-04 at 01.34.43.webp
mobile devices:
R 2015-03-04 at 01.34.11.webp

would be great get something like:

R 2015-03-04 at 01.33.28.webp
Even with the flag a little small. would be really great.
I guess it need some css responsive tweeks.

I can't duplicate what you're seeing.

All of the additional info and the flag all disappear completely on mobile devices with every style I have.
mobile.webp

Are you running another add-on that displays that info when a mobile device is used?

mmm... maybe ToggleME
I'll dissable ToggleMe and take a look.
Edit: Confirmed. You're right,
without ToggleMe the flag doesn't show up in mobile devices. great.
any idea how to make it friendly with toggleMe? maybe just need some small piece of css.
ToggleMe is essential addon to me. :coffee:

The issue is with ToggleMe, as you said disabling ToggleMe the flag disappear.(I also want that)
Your addon is working perfect. I'll find the way to hide that toggle in mobile devices. :coffee:
