Congrats Xenforo.com on some real love from Google

my forum is PR3, (according to those online checkers) but I've never done anything as far as SEO goes, hell I don't even plug my own forum.

Just doing a quick read on it, it seems page rank is one of something like 50 variables google takes into account grading a website for search. Just how important is this one aspect, page rank?

It's quite important if you care about good ranking on the SERP's. As you probably know, your site's PR goes up when other sites link to your site, preferably sites with the same niche as yours. The PR of the site linking to your site will also be important when your PR is calculated. With Google especially, the 'PR factor' is pretty important. It may only be one of many variables, but each variable also has different weight. And it is no secret that sites with at least a good PR tend to rank higher than sites with a very low PR.

Really? I have a site with a PR3 that is #1 for the search terms relveant in it's niche - it beats even Wikipedia.

Google itself says "We’ve been telling people for a long time that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it's the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true"

That's exactly right, but it doesn't contradict what I said Walter. I never said anything about PR 3 always ranking lower than PR +3. Content and the way it is written is very important too (actually it's more important, and it often also creates backlinks).

Pagerank it's not important for the serp domination; anyway is very important for the content indexing (more pr= much fast pages indexing)

Not sure where you got that. Indexing is done by web crawlers and should not depend on PR. PR is what made Google different from other SE when it started and it is used to calculate the importance of a web page. This will affect its ranking on the SERPS. However the search results are based on more than just the PR, so that a very relevant page (content relevant to the query that is) with lower PR can still rank above a less relevant page with high PR.

I think people put too much emphasis on these figures that really don't mean anything. Same with yslow values.
To say they don't mean anything is quite a statement. Maybe they don't mean as much as we would all like but it is still a piece of the whole seo / serp puzzle,.

Started xenfans last year, went from 0 to 4, and seems to be stuck there until seo spammers change that.
