I've found a reliable way to reproduce the unexpected [COLOR] BBCode issue.

Reproduction steps
  1. Open the XenForo rich-text editor in Chrome on Android.
  2. Enter multiple lines of text.
  3. Select one or more lines.
  4. Replace the selected text by typing directly using the Android on-screen keyboard.
  5. Submit the message or switch to BBCode mode before submitting.
Actual result
A color tag is unexpectedly added to part of the remaining text, for example:

Expected result
Replacing selected text must not apply an explicit text color to any part of the message.

Additional findings
I can reproduce this on Android, but not on Windows.

The inserted RGB value appears to match the editor's computed default text color. This would explain why:
  • the color is always the same within a particular forum/style;
  • different forums produce different RGB values;
  • the problem is usually only noticed by users of the opposite color variation;
  • text written in a light style receives a dark explicit color and becomes difficult to read in dark mode.
For example, one forum consistently produces rgb(17, 18, 19), while other forums produce their own default text color.

I've attached a video demonstrating how to reproduce the bug.

I get the same result right here on this forum when using Chrome browser on Android.

It doesn't happen when selecting the full first and last line before typing. Only if part of the first and last line is selected, as in the video above.
