once you open link in "split view" ... it looks like this.

where the link opens in the right half of the screen.

I think this is useful as most screen are wider than is useful and most websites "don't use the full screen to the max".

It's kind of a browser based version of Windows split screen.
To see windows split screen use [Win]+right arrow.

Split view is actually a nice addition, widescreens usually waste space, and most sites don’t stretch their layouts anyway. Having Chrome handle the split for you feels smoother than dragging windows around, especially when you’re comparing pages or reading something while keeping a reference open. It’s basically the browser catching up to how people already use their desktops.

It's too old school. Looks terrible in today's technology
Yeah, no denying the old-schoolness to it. The base functionality to it works though. One of the larger issues i'm coming up with is dragging tabs in or out of the split view. I do find it useful when messing about with CSS/templating, or quick access between sites. Additionally, I just don't like the fact that the URL bar display is shared between the two tabs. Would have enjoyed for the URL bar being displayed twice when the split screen mode is active.
