Change the upload / optimise to webp order

At present when I upload am image, or series of images I note

1) Upload JPEG/JPG
2) Pause while XF does the conversion to WEBP
3) Insert image.

My suggestion is that XF uploads in whatever format is acceptable ( JPEG/JPG for instance ) then retrospectively converts in the background after the post has been submitted.

This will prevent a pause in image upload process that I have noted.

Discourse works this way and it works well.

Delays on the user facing side should definitely be minimized whenever possible. The faster the experience the more likely people are to stick around and participate.

Personally I think the 2.3 approach is nice because user doesn't end up uploading heavy images. They are optimized and resized before upload. It might actually be faster than direct upload in a lot of case. Definitely noticeable on slow connectivity like on cellular.

Plus fewer images would be rejected based on forum settings like before 🤷🏼

I have no size constraints.

My users value photo uploads.

Storage is cheap relatively but time is not.

I’d rather it uploads like before, just webp after
