Can you install Mac OS X on a formatted HDD?

Well what is your actual need...like why one or the other or why do you need both...is it only for looks...or is there something you want to do on a mac that you can't on windows or the reverse?

I really only care about the looks and the fact that the Mac UI is much easier on the eyes. I would stick with just the theme but it maxes out my CPU because it has to run like 20+ processes to make everything work...
