Block all variations of an email?

I've got a persistent spammer trying to register for the site with variations of the email address qwen.qwe.nlo.lo.p@gmail.com


They just keep shifting the periods around on the left side of the email address. They'll eventually run out of permutations, but I'd like to block this kind of thing outright.

The email blocking facilities mention wildcard support but this won't suffice for blocking this kind of behavior. Some regex is required here. Are regular expressions supported for email blocking? Is there a solution to this problem?

@whynot possibly the only way out of this. Though the false positives would be very high with this approach I fear.

I've got a new one that's started today. All combinations of bo.ris1.9.80se.c.e.n.o.v@gmail.com are currently being tried.

Regex matching here would be a very nice thing to have.

Far too many dots in them.

I would block: *.*.*.*@gmail.com

or simply *.*.*.*@*

There was an addon for vbulletin just for this. Maybe some dev might pick up the ball and run with it.
