XF 2.2 Best way to move from XF 2.2.8 Patch 1 to 2.3.4...

Hi all.. We've got an older installation of XF that really hasn't been touched in about 2.5 years give or take. It's time to bring it up to date and I'm fishing for the best approach here. I ran across the doc someone posted on moving from 2.2 to 2.3 with good stuff in it but I guess I'm wondering in my particular case if it would be prudent to jump from 2.2.8 to a few versions newer than that and keep following that till I get through the 13 revisions between my 2.2.8 Patch 1 and 2.3.4.. I guess I'm a little concerned whether the auto-update (assuming I disable add-ons, switch to the default theme, do my backups and so forth -- whether the updater would behave properly with such a big gap from old to new... Thoughts?

Back up everything then update. Should not be an issue.

You can easily upgrade from 1.5 to 2.3 - the upgrader is solid. No need to worry. It only gets worrying when you run add ons and themes. And those should be disabled before upgrading when doing a major upgrade. A 2.2.8 to 2.2.10 for example doesn't need it disabled but 2.2.8 to 2.3 should.

Update all of the add ons FIRST and make sure they are compat.

You can also disable them all and bring them back one at a time, after doing the above and upgrading. (in case one in particular has issues)

You could also do a test upgrade on a different copy and database.

You can’t upgrade add ons that are for newer software. Just disable all, upgrade forum software, then add ons. It will automatically enable them again,

If they are addons you rely on I’d first of all check their compatibility with 2.3. Fairly big changes in theme so I did update on test installation, worked on theme and exported it, then imported when I did the actual update.
Thanks .. I just checked and it is a Xenfocus theme and they claim it works with XF 2.3.. one less thing to be concerned about..
