Implemented Available Upgrade notices should appear on admin home

I was on my admin area today and didn't even know there was a new release until i came here (which i don't always do in a pre-quarantine world).

Hunting for it in tools->check for upgrade is not ideal.

If an upgrade exists, please have it show on the first screeen of admin.php.


Also, the cron seems to have run at about 5am and the release made at 8am eastern. I realise the releases won't ever be at a certain time, but perhaps there's a better time to set the cron to check so that it doesn't wait 22 hours to get a critical update?

There is no guarantee time that a release may be made, so the cron may take 22 hrs, or 22 minutes before it runs to show an update.

yeah, understood. I'm thinking maybe it checks more often? 4 times a day? it can't be that big of a hit...

Really is not that important to check that often. Considering this bug has been around for ~30 months, 22 hours is not going to make a difference.
