Authentication through an external web application.

I have an asp.net application and would like to authenticate users through Xenforo? Is that possible? Is there an API I can use?

I'm new to Xenforo so sorry if it's a silly question

The owner of the xenforo license added me so I should be fine now I guess My goal is to integrate a simple application to the whole system and all I need is to pass the logged in user name in Xenforo forum to this app.
