I can totally see myself using a VPS like this for some throwaway projects

Of course as with most things, you get what you pay for.

We have personally used Ramnode and Iniz for backup DNS servers. Ramnode runs us about $15/year, and Iniz was about $10/year with one of their specials. Those are probably the only ones I would trust in that price range.

These are not profitable (and they publicly state so themselves) so it is interesting to see how this will play out for them. Hopefully they get the upgrades they expect otherwise..
