XF 1.1 Are the new notifications resource intensive?

Hello,

I was wondering if the new notifications would be resource intensive, as they are called on every new AJAX call. Also, to be more specific, would it have any (major) impact on a server if I have a shout box that makes a new AJAX request every five seconds (to update the chat) with up to fifteen people in it? At the same time it's checking if there's any new notifications.

Load the page without an alert notification.
Then load the page where you get one and click on show debug info
While keeping an eye on the server resources.
i doubt you will notice a difference
