    Trying to make the most of of caching...

    What about the back end config? Are you going to try Memcached/ACP/Xcache?

    thought I had memcache installed, but i don't on this load. Which caching do you recommend?

    there is memcached and memcache, you need to have both and then add memcache.so to your extensions in php.ini too
