XF 2.3 Anything similar to WP Custom Taxonomies?

I wonder if there's a functionality either core or by add-ons to have custom taxonomy.
For example, instead of having general "tags" that can be anything you have a "dogs" taxonomy which terms are for example: Labrador, Chihuahua, Shih Tzu... etc
From what I see XF could get close to that with custom fields except that I'd need to list every term (dog breed) myself. You might think well do that, but imagine is not dogs but things that can have thousands of options, I can't sit there typing them, and some may never be used.

I'd like people to enter their own term and if not there add it. So others can re-use them later.
Maybe custom fields isn't even the right thing, maybe it's tags, I don't know.
Anything like it?

Interesting to see what people say. Tags of the writing sites I publish my stories on work like this on the current software:

And I kind of like it. Gives you some freedom with your tagging but also saves you some typing if, as often happens, you're not the first person to use that tag. Creates some issues, e.g. people choosing different tags for the same thing, so not a true, controlled taxonomy but for a site like that, it works okay. For instance I might tag my crime story with "murder" while another writer chooses "homicide". A user looking for crime stories about killing people would need to be aware that both exist.

You would need some sort of parent-child relation where murder is a child of homicide.
Yes for synonyms and misspelling it would need moderation, but it's better than having to come up with every tag myself.
