XF 1.5 After registration, usernames become real life name?

I am running a forum that is very serious about anonymity. However, more than one user has mentioned to me that when they sign up, their username becomes their real life name. One of them has told me they used their Gmail to sign up, I'm not sure about the others. However, these is a serious issue as anonymity is of the upmost highest importance. Any thoughts as to why this would happen?

Is their Gmail name their real life name?
Did they sign up to your site using Google?

I don't think so? I'm pretty sure they registered directly through the register page on my website. It's a very new site.

Then they must have entered their real name.

XF is not omniscient.
It can't know the names of those registering.
