Not blaming the add-on --- repeated from there:

Tried to install the latest, and the process stalls for hours.

The Admin Control Panel says:

One or more add-ons currently have actions pending and may be in an inconsistent state. Because of this, some errors may be suppressed and unexpected behavior may occur. If this does not change shortly, please contact the add-on author for guidance.


The settings button doesn't work to uninstall, and I have tried re-upgrading; and deleting by FTP which continued that message; and reuploading by FTP...


I have deleted the add-on files in /src. no change: added them back to see if they would finally install. Nothing helps and can't use any of the settings buttons on the add-ons page nor upgrade languages.

The forum works OK, and that particular excellent add-on still works as ever. But most of the Admin CP is not working very well.

A few Server Errors of this type over the week:

I am running the latest XenForo and nearly every add-on is up-to-date. Health checks pass OK. There don't seem to be the options to optimise and repair the mylsql databases as in the ancient vBull of so many years ago, and I don't want to mess about with stuff I am rusty on now.

The only recent change was a week or so ago going from ( I think ) 7.3 to 7.4 in cPanel. Would reverting this, or going even lower to 7.2 --- my hosts frown on even 7.1 --- solve this, or should I reinstall XenForo again ?

Country Flags by IP Address -- Not sure but disable this one, See if doing that clears the mud for you. I suspected you might have it. When you re-enable it the cron in this one titled “ Update MaxMind GeoIP database file" needs to be disabled.

Thanks very much again; but the problem includes the fact I can't disable anything etc. from the admin panel. The settings button just doesn't respond for any add-on.

At the very least, make sure that cron is disabled if you can.. Tools>Cron Entries

I thought so, I just remembered that error for the guy who tried to install a copy he still had of it, AFTER the addon was deleted. Did it happen as well when someone with that addon installed, tried to upgrade xF?

FWIW I just updated this addon and had no issues - on a board where the aforementioned Country Flags addon is active, but has the cron disabled.

The cron in that addon can be disabled or enabled, it makes no difference nor throws any errors.

I only brought it up because the only other time I saw that error, (One or more add-ons currently have actions pending and may be in an inconsistent state.) was related to the country flags addon. Not saying the same is true here, was just something for him to check. Harmless.

Judging by the SQL error message, my guess is there's a long-running query that needs to be killed. Current queries can be found in phpMyAdmin, in Status > Server.

One possible cause for the lock timeout is that tables use MyISAM and not InnoDB.

Not yet, thank you. We had a few storms and nearly 30 hours without electricity, and I didn't get back to it yet.

Yes ! Using Seamonkey sent it through normally. I suspect the javascript on my Firefox is slightly borked.

Trouble is after 30 odd years of the internet we are down to a pitiful handful of 'competing' browsers, with still fewer engines, smaller than a man's hand.

Worse probably on Linux as Windows has a few more shells/overlays masquerading as separate browsers.

I blame Google.

There's no relation between browsers and SQL errors. If the SQL error spontaneously disappeared, it's probably just that the underlying cause disappeared while you weren't looking. If the issue is a long-running query as I suspect, it's possible that it either finished running or it was automatically killed.

The main point is that there's a good chance the same error will reappear at some point in the future.

Well, all I can say is that updating on my Firefox doesn't work any more, and using another browser works. As for SQL errors I daresay an XenForo version update will cure that.
