Add-on Addon where links created by users under a certain threshold are just text

Certainly doable, but why would you want to do that?
IMHO this would just make things uncomfortable for legit users while not stopping spam at all.
Bots would still post their stuff and not care at all so you would still have spam in your forum as human spammers (who might only notice that after submitting the post) are a rare beast anyway.

Yeah that's a solid point @Kirby
My thoughts are that by creating a threshold and then effectively removing spam (and then accounts that are spamming) that it would be a pretty effective filter.
I know some big xf forums that don't allow links at all, and they're commercially-based topically, so don't think that legitimate users would have that much of a hard time sacrificing the ability to post links that actually turn into hyperlinks for the early part of their inclusion in the community.
Who knows though, I'm fairly new at this and you are probably speaking from experience anyway.. so I'll take it onboard

Things like https://xenforo.com/community/resou...-spaminator-stop-spam-bot-registrations.7410/ are way more effective to stop automated spam, don't take much time for housekeeping and and most cases don't affect legit users at all.
