Two related suggestions:
One: There are times when adding a link in a paragraph that explains jargon or a concept is overkill. A tooltip function could often do just as well. A example would be BIBS with a "Built-In Breathing System" tooltip. Syntax could be something like this:
[tooltip='BIBS']Built-In Breathing System[/tooltip]
Two: Wikipedia's ability to pop thumbnails on mouseovers of links within a sentence is a great learning tool. We discuss technically complex and diverse topics with a reader base that ranges from newbie to experts. A thumbnail can often explain it without opening a new page. It would also be desirable for an option to force that link to pop in a new tab or window when clicked so the reader doesn't loose their place.
