Activity Summary needs its own bounce threshold settings due to length of time between emails and XF's 30 day reset

The bounce handler resets every 30 days, great for active users receiving notifications and you can give them second and third chances for bounces. But if you send the Activity Summary to users that have not been active in awhile (this is the only email they are receiving), and you send when they have not been active for a period over "every" 30 days, the emails will just keep bouncing without anything done about it. Bad for deliverability scores to have these never handled.

It would be ideal to set the soft bounce threshold to 1 for AS emails, seeing as 2 and 3 would actually have no effect since another AS would not be sent within 30 days. As of now, you'd have to set that for all email. The suggestion is to add the threshold to AS settings or to have some kind of solution, maybe the "30 day reset" can be configurable? I know that has actually been mentioned before.

The "stop sending" after a certain period setting should not be the solution since it affects valid emails.

Thanks

that's not necessarily true.

They could be subscribed to old threads that are getting new replies. otherwise, i agree with you.

Completely agreed.

It would be very useful to set the bounce handler reset period. For various situations. If you have received a lot of erroneous soft bounces, then that will disrupt the whole process and being able to temporarily set a shorter reset time would avoid accounts getting set to bounced in error.

Example:

It would also be nice to have more opportunities to email members with useful emails. Not just a monthly Activity Summary with latest content.

This is true but also an independent threshold setting set would also be beneficial for AS emails. Since they are so far apart (for most people that use it) it is highly unlikely the repeated bounce would be the same temporary glitch. They really don't need 3 chances. 2, even 1, would be ideal for these emails. However in conjunction with what you suggested it would work. If the AS is sent every 60 days, and they get 2 chances, you could set the reset period to over 120 days but also be able to set the threshold to 2, where there's a second chance given to go through just in case the first bounce was temporary.
