XF 2.2 400 posts yesterday but Akismet was hit nearly 6k times

How does Akismet get called? I had 400 posts yesterday but Akismet was called 6k times. Any ideas?

Without checking for sure, it's probably based upon your SPAM settings.

Most likely this setting for posts




I feel reasonably certain that after that many posts as defined it quits checking in other areas also.

Right, but how does 400 posts trigger 6k akismet calls? That should result in 400 calls. @Xon does your spam script use akismet at all?

Once more... I'm pretty sure that once you exceed the amount set in that field, you are NO longer confined to spam checks, specifically when dealing with messages, since AskiMet is part of the spam detection process.
The only area that I'd be unsure of is where it checks other areas for user input.... like this



If you are getting more than that... then yes, there may be an issue there. My site is not that busy... but it's only had about 120 API calls over the last 3 months, and that's WELL within the number of posts (albeit slightly high for new vs existing users but I do use an RSS feed that may come into play).

You'll need to check the spam trigger log files, as there are a bunch of things it could be without being posts.

@Xon does your spam script use akismet at all?

It doesn't cause additional akismet calls.

It's the contact form that is getting spammed. @Xon, do you have anything to protect that?
