12 Years of Forums. What have you learned?

Im a little confused by this statement.

What are you running on XF, if you're not running a forum?

Neither my XF or IPS licences are in use. The only community I currently run has 17 members and 762 posts. But for its niche, this is no way surprising. (In any case, migrating that community to either platform would require many, many hours of development and since my existing platform does what I need and is as supported as it’s ever going to be, I see no value in changing.)

I keep hoping that something will happen, that some new development will come out and inspire me to put these licences to use but between the lack of innovation and the descent into online madness that seems to be accelerating, no plans any more for those.

28 years for me. Sticking with it hasn't always been easy. Back when forum aquisitions were super common I turned down a couple big offers. After seeing what has happened to many of the forums that were purchased back then I am glad I have stuck with it.

If I remember right @Suzanne O , you went out on your own accord to create threads for various members here at Xenforo.com just to rant and bash them on your site. Without even the awareness of said users until people went to check out your forum last year. Some would say that’s the master of all trolling

I’ve to admit that this is a weird combination, is it like a role playing forum or? not sure how to role play that.

anyways, I think the key of having a forum is patience. don’t expect it to blow up right away. use email marketing for user retention. don’t try to be the next Facebook. forums are unique, try to be so.
