1,000,000+ posts, poor SEO - How can I find someone honest to help?

I have a fairly large community (northwestfirearms.com), but my SEO is poor at best. I'd like to hire someone honest who could help me out in that department, but there are so many people making outrageous claims, I find it hard to find someone who could deliver.

Any tips for finding someone who knows what they're doing SEO wise who could help me improve my SEO?

Just a suggestion - I see you are using sitemap at http://www.northwestfirearms.com/sitemap/sitemap.xml.gz and it has old threads listing first with names http://www.northwestfirearms.com/sitemap/sitemap.threads.1.xml.gz a http://www.northwestfirearms.com/sitemap/sitemap.threads.2.xml.gz and so on, and the threads containing latest data are the last in the list. We considered this to be the problem and disabled sitemap for one of our customer's board, we are waiting to see how that affects indexation rate.
