This is a space sandbox that is being developed by the creator of Minecraft. I have been watching it for a while, but there have been no updates until recently.
In summary:
- customizable and programmable ships
- planet mining
- space combat
What really appeals to me is the programming aspect of the game. Similar to Minecraft, this new game allows the player to create their own content, meaning you get to actually play the game rather than just experience it (which is a common problem with new games).
My first thought was to enact my Star Trek fantasies in this new universe, but I'm sure there will be tons of Enterprises and Millenium Falcons all over the place. On second thought I think I will draw inspiration from a less mainstream universe that occupied many of my waking hours in high school, Escape Velocity.
