Displays a user’s country flag based on their current IP address.

This add-on uses MaxMind’s GeoLite2 Country database along with the MaxMind DB Reader. It does not require mod_geoip on your server.

⚠️ Not compatible with XenForo Cloud. Will not work on cloud-hosted XF sites.

Features

  • Supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
  • Control which user groups can view flags
  • Flexible flag display locations
  • Automatic database updates

Changes from XF 1.x

  • Flag view permissions have been moved from add-on options to user group permissions

Requirements

  • A MaxMind license key is required
All users must generate their own license key and enter it in the add-on options.

Notes

  • The add-on connects to MaxMind servers to download the GeoLite2 database after a valid license key is entered
  • If the connection fails, the add-on will not function until the database is successfully downloaded
  • There may be a delay before a newly created license key becomes active
  • If the key is entered before activation, it will not be saved and an error will be shown

A simple thing that, especially for my community, adds so much to it. The users like being able to see where the members are from. The only issue is (and it's not something that can really be controlled by this add-on) is when those users are using VPN's.

Yeah, unfortunately VPN’s cause false flags to be shown. :( thanks for leaving a review.
Could not get this addon to work. Even with a license key from Maxmind, waiting 24 hours, double-checking the key was valid by testing it manually, re-running the cron entry to make sure the data was downloaded, setting usergroup permissions, etc. Just produces a white page with an "unexpected error occured" for anyone who should be able to see flag info. Nothing in server log to debug why this happens, either.
Excellent addon which instantly allows us to compare the given location of a new member with their actual country. If they don't match, chances are the member is a spammer. Also we can instantly tell whether someone is from a high spam source like India.
Very useful and visually appealing additions to the forum. If you have a multi-national community, then this addon helps you to categorize the people according to their location. Using it since day 1 and no complaints. Thank you.
Fantastic addon. Been using the XF1 version for several years and now finally migrating, glad to see this was updated.

My only gripe is that like some others I really feel like the default sprites look dated and changing them is quite a hassle. I've replaced them with famfamfam's flags myself but there are plenty of other alternatives if you do some digging.

Overall though, excellent work!
Love this add-on. Good job for developing it and introducing it to Xenforo. It is very beneficial and works very well.
Useful add-on. I would recommend including an option to use country flag emojis instead of a sprite sheet though. They're much higher resolution.
Works very nice in my forum. I want to thanks Snog for keeping this free. Its a good add-on for Xenforo 2.
I didn't realize all the work put into this and how it worked until reading the xenForo 1.x version. This will help my moderators spot spam and trolls.
Excellent support too. Snog helped install and diagnose a server issue.
I’ve used this on v1 and now v2 of xenforo. It’s a must for those with a global audience. I’m surprised it’s free to be honest. I’m more surprised it’s not built within xenforo itself
